February in Scotland
Weather
If you’ve read our January in Scotland article you’ll have a fairly good idea what the forecast for February in Scotland will be! Our weather is unpredictable, we don’t have a climate so much as a random string of weather events! February like January is typically fairly cold and wet with some clear and crisp days punctuating the month. There will be snow on the hills and mountains though giving rise to some spectacular scenery.
Flora and Fauna
We’ll definitely have some Snowdrops in flower around the country by mid to late February and perhaps a showing of Crocus toward the end of the month, especially at lower levels in sheltered spots.
The Red Deer are still down in the glens to shelter from the hill top weather, so we’re likely to see them on our travels, there’ll be the Buzzard and Pheasant as in January.
It’s still cold and dark though so some critters are still less apparent than later in the year.
European Buzzards and Kestrels will be a possible sighting and the Golden Eagle may be seen in some places too! In the right area, Otters, Beavers, Seals and Red Squirrels are still possible sightings.

Events
Scotland in February is host to many events of different types.
Celtic Connections music festival which starts in January is finishing in Glasgow toward the start of the month.
There’s a whole month of festivities at Glencoe February Fest with Beer, Food, Live Music and Outdoor events the main features.
Aberdeen hosts the Spectra Festival of Light for the 5th year in 2019 – no dates released yet but it’s normally been a few days before and after the 9th February. Watch this space for updates – if you see an update before we make it – let us know!
And that’s not all! There’s a whole host of film, music, outdoor and sporting festivities during February including the start of the 6 Nations Rugby Tournament. As always, if there’s something you’d like to find out more about please get in touch!
Seasonal Food
Seafood like Mussels are great over the winter months steeped in white wine, garlic and shallots! Some of the Brassica family are coming into their own (Cauliflowers) and winter Leeks are becoming available – perfect for the beautiful fish soup – Cullen Skink. Of course Game is still available – until the 15th of the month!
