Scotland in December
Weather
Scotland in December is coming into winter so our random weather events are generally cold and wet. We’ll get a few bright and clear days, they’re normally cool to cold, often frosty!
Daylight hours are running down towards the Winter Solstice, in some parts of the country that means we’ve got 6 hours or less between sunrise and sunset! It’s a wonderfully dark period of time with the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) sometimes being visible on the clear days.
We offer tours throughout the year and typically find December in Scotland can be a busy month, especially over the Christmas and New Year period, get in touch here before we’re fully booked!

Flora and Fauna
Hibernating creatures are deep in their slumber! The deer are down from the hills and often found licking the salt from the roads. The holy and the ivy and other ever green plants are about the only green on show!
We run tours all year round. December is a great month to visit Scotland and we’re often busy, especially over the Christmas and New Year period. Enquire here before we’re fully booked!
Events
‘Tis the season to be jolly and all over Scotland there are celebrations of Christmas and the New Year, known as Hogmanay.
In most theatre’s in the land the annual Pantomime will be the headline show. With audience participation actively encouraged be prepared to ‘boo’ the bad guys ‘welcome’ the good guys and help them when the bad guys are behind them!
There’s a Christmas market to be found in the cities and some castles even host events too.
There’s so much to be involved with at this time of year we couldn’t possibly list it all but do get in touch and we can put together a plan for you!

Seasonal Food
Many bars and restaurants feature a ‘seasonal menu’ for Christmas. This often features Turkey, roast vegetables and ‘all the trimmings’ worth trying if you find it! Roast Chestnuts are in season and you may find them on menu’s too. It’s coming to the end of Grouse season, so not all the game is on the menu but there should be some!
