April in Scotland
Weather

Touring Scotland in April is still going to show snow on the hilltops and sometimes at lower levels too, though towards the end of month there is likely to be less. Towards the end of the month, it is a good bit warmer and the daylight hours are getting towards the summer length. It’s still Scotland so you’re likely to still need warm clothes in the evenings and waterproof jacket and boots for sure, remember April Showers is a real thing! We offer tours throughout the year and typically find April in Scotland is a busy month, get in touch here before we’re fully booked!
Flora and Fauna
Every year clients declare on tours ‘it’s so green’ and that comes from our climate, with a great mixture of wet and warm weather. By the end of April almost every plant has started to grow. We’re also starting to see some of the late spring and early summer flowers coming out. We should certainly see some cherry blossom, perhaps a bit of blooming from gorse and broom bushes with their bright yellow flowers.
Everything is out of hibernation by the end of the month so we can expect to see all of Scotlands summer creatures. The Red Deer will still be at lower levels at the start of the month especially after colder winters. We run tours all year round and enjoy helping our clients spot the common and not so common creatures in our country!
European Buzzards and Kestrels will be a regular sighting and the Golden Eagle may be seen in some places too! In the right area, Otters, Beavers, Seals and Red Squirrels are still easy sightings.
April is a fantastic month to visit Scotland and we’re often very busy so enquire here before we’re fully booked!
Events
The pre-summer season of events is nearly in full swing, with events in nearly every town and city. Typically there are Easter celebrations and services as well as the start of the Beer Festival season! Post Easter is when every tourist attraction is up and running and re-open after the winter.
Seasonal Food
From the farm there’s still an abundance of root vegetables and brassicas still coming from the land, beetroots, turnips, carrots and parsnips aplenty! New season lamb is solidly available and Scottish Lamb is unbeatable. Beef from the famous Aberdeen Angus is World Renowned! From the sea, shell fish is still a good option with Lobster, Scallops and razor clams some of our favourites. Fresh Sea caught Scottish Wild Salmon and Sea Trout should be making it into the market from the end of April (sea caught).
